West End Festival Turns Sweet Sixteen

Glasgow’s largest arts, music, food and fashion event returns to the West End for its 16th year, celebrating the City’s vibrant cultural heritage. 600 events will take place over a spread of 24 days from the 3rd to the 26th of June.

Lasts year’s festival saw over 160,000 revellers take part in activities, adding to the 1 million in total which have attended since its beginnings in 1996. This year organisers hope it will be bigger than ever before and boast their most stellar line-up yet.

Tommy Reilly, winner of the Orange Unsigned Act in 2009, opens the proceedings with a concert in Oran Mor on Friday the 3rd. Then, running for the duration of the festival is the Cottier Chamber Music programme which hosts 23 early evening music concerts in the newly re-opened Cottier Theatre. There will also be an outdoor cinema in Kelvingrove Park and a free, vintage bus service provided by The Glasgow Vintage Vehicle Trust on Sunday the 26th of June.

Festival Sunday in Kelvingrove Park also returns this year on the 5th of June. The Festival is a perfect day out for all the family with live music events, food, drink and the Festival’s famous Mardi Gras parade. Then the following Sunday, 12th of June, the Gibson Street Gala takes place, hosting a free music stage, entertainment, crafts and activities for all.
