Annexe Cafe awarded the Healthy Living Award

The Annexe Cafe, based at the Annexe HLC in Stewartville Street, Partick, has been awarded the Healthy Living Award for serving up healthy eating choices on their menu.

The award is an initiative ran by the Scottish Consumer Council and the Scottish Executive which encourages and supports the easier access to healthier eating wherever you see their apple logo. To win the award, cafe cooks Tony Osbourne and Rosie Guy, with support from cafe volunteers Vanya and Christine, had to demonstrate that

• Levels of fats and oils, particularly saturated fats, are kept to a minimum.
• Levels of salt and sugar are kept to a minimum.
• Fruit and vegetables are clearly available.
• Starchy foods form the main part of most meals.
• Healthy and nutritious children’s foods are provided.
• At least 50% of the food on the menu must be labeled as healthy living choices

The Cafe award was made in May 2008 and runs until 2010. The Annexe Cafe is open Monday through to Friday 10am-2.30pm. So give healthy and tasty choices a try and pop in for lunch with a friend. Spread the health!
