The Volunteer Centre’s Breaking Down Barriers project
held another volunteer information and fun day on 4 July at Drumchapel
Community Centre. There was lots of entertainment on for the
community including free face painting, arts and crafts, salsa
dancing, clown and magician, aromatherapy hand massage and lunch
was provided to all who came along. A variety of community projects
attended with a stall on the day to promote volunteering including
Enable Glasgow, Glasgow Wood Recycling Project, Drumchapel Law
Money Advice Centre and 3D Drumchapel to name a few. Once again
the response from the community was overwhelming.
Grace Craigon from the Breaking Down Barriers project
said “it was great to see so many people from the community
turn out to find out about volunteering and to support the event.
The community has been amazing over the past 2 years. Bill Butler
MSP also came along to support the work that we do as an organisation
and I would like to thank him personally, I would also like to
thank everyone involved including Drumchapel LIFE, The Fair Share
Trust, Drumchapel Community Centre and of course all the volunteers
and volunteer centre staff who helped out on the day to help
make it a success.”
If you would like to find out more about volunteering as a way
to help improve your confidence and self esteem, use your spare
time, or help back in to employment then call us at the Drumchapel
office on 0141 944 3775.
Grace Craigon will also be holding another tasters week soon
and anyone who is interested in coming along to “try out” volunteering
without having to make any commitment is very welcome and should
contact Grace on 0141 944 3775. Earlier in the year Grace held
a very successful taster’s course and a variety of organisations
were very keen to get involved.
