Community Planning Update

Community Planning is a way of planning and delivering better services across an area. Community Planning is particularly about those issues that need to be addressed by more than one agency. In the last edition of the Glasgow News we updated you on some of the aims that have been identified at a citywide level.

Local Community Planning Partnerships have now developed action plans to show how they will enhance or develop new local initiatives and services to contribute to the achievement of these aims. In the West and Central and West areas, five theme action plans have been developed that show in practical terms what partners will do to deliver better joint services locally. In addition, a plan for young people has been drawn up to show how services to this target group will also be improved.

Listed below are some of the key investment priorities under each theme for the West area:

Healthy Glasgow
• Tackling obesity
• Promoting uptake of physical activity – particularly for younger and older people
• Improving employability for clients of health and social work services
Vibrant Glasgow
• Develop an ‘arts for all’ participation programme
• Maximise household income and reduce debt via debt and money advice services
• Develop structures for joint development work on environmental programmes
Safe Glasgow
• Reduction in number of violent crime incidents (including violence against women)
• Reduce the number of incidents of vandalism
• Increase number of targeted diversionary activities for young people
Learning Glasgow
• Increase choice and scope of learning opportunities
• Provide learning opportunities for those with additional support needs e.g. those with physical disabilities
• Improve literacy and numeracy – particularly for young people

Each theme action plan is being lead by the relevant Community Planning Partnership partner agency, who in turn will be working with other service providers to work to make improvements on all of the above and more.
