Glasgow’s Merchant City Festival returns for its
7th year in 2008, running from Thursday 25 September to Sunday
28 September.
Attracting tens of thousands to Glasgow’s architecturally
stunning and vibrant Merchant City area, the Festival presents
a cutting-edge programme featuring the cream of Scotland’s
theatre, music, visual arts, comedy, dance, film, food and fashion
scene.
Discover opera singers in the courtyards performing alongside
thrilling street theatre, iconoclastic comedy and music from
every genre in the bars and on the street. In addition, the Festival
even has a short film programme in conjunction with BAFTA Scotland
that screens films in unusual venues such as estate agents, hairdressers
and opticians. This year’s programme will also feature
an exciting fashion show in conjunction with ChildLine Scotland.
The Merchant City Festival is one of Scotland’s most diverse
platforms for the arts and has attracted a remarkable range of
supporters and contributors from directors of Scottish festivals
to organisations such as Scottish Opera, BBC Scottish Symphony
Orchestra, Magners Glasgow International Comedy Festival and
BAFTA Scotland to showcase the best of what’s happening
in Scotland. An international context is provided by the Directors’ Choice
programme that presents a remarkable range of street artists
selected from festival directors in Spain, France, Austria and
the Netherlands.
All this plus fantastic fashion shops and some of the best bars,
clubs and restaurants all within a five minutes walk from the
Festival centre.
