600 Years Legging-it Around Drumchapel

Taking part in the D5K Fun Run were nine members of the Leg-It Around Drumchapel Walking Group. The group, which continues to grow in size, meets once or twice a week to get together for exercise and companionship through using the many measured walks in Drumchapel and other areas of the city. Believe it or not, the combined age of the nine walkers is 604 years, with an average age of 67.1 years young. All successfully completed the course, each collecting their well deserved medal and T- Shirt.

The oldest Leg-It walker is “The Daddy”, wee George Flynn, a sprightly 88 years young. George served in the Royal Navy during World War II and aboard the aircraft carrier H.M.S. Invincible, witnessed action in the Mediterranean, the Atlantic and the Indian Ocean. George however hotly denies the rumour that he served on the Ark with Noah.

Kenny Macdonald of Drumchapel L.I.F.E., who support the group said ‘this is such a great achievement for George and the others. The walking groups in Drumchapel are proving a great way for people to come out and be active, get to know new friends and improve their health and well being. We are committed to continue to support this kind of activity in the West of Glasgow’

Leg It group members get their breath back at the end of the D5K. George Flynn, 88, is the young guy in the middle of the front row.
