Pro:Judo ventured into Europe for the first time recently
to compete in a prestigious international tournament in the
Netherlands. Ten club members traveled to Venray, near the
Dutch city of Eindhoven, to take part in the event, which was
held on 7 and 8 June.
It was an extremely popular event, attracting 1,300 competitors
from 300 clubs across 28 countries.
Despite tough competition, the club returned with two medals:
Erin Armstrong, age 8, won a silver medal and Laura Hewitt, 10,
won bronze.
Head Coach Brian Long said, “The trip was really enjoyable
for all the club members, and not just for the competition. Meeting
people from different countries helps build good social skills
and confidence levels. Judo can really help young people in all
aspects of their development. ”
