Annexe GROWS Project Anderston

The Annexe Healthy Living Centre has been working with the community of Anderston for three years, developing and delivering healthy living initiatives. During this time, members of the local community identified a need for developing local green spaces, in particular space to grow their own food locally.

This resulted in the Annexe working with a group of residents called the ‘Anderston Growers’ and recently submitting a successful application to the Climate Challenge Fund to develop a combined Community Vegetable Growing Project and Energy Awareness Initiative in the Anderston neighbourhood. The initiative is also supported by ‘Lettuce Grow’ a fruit barra group run by local residents from the Anderston area.

A local site has been identified for growing food, owned by Glasgow West Housing Association. The project will employ a full time development worker and session gardener to assist the group with management of the site. Individual residents as well as community groups will also be able to apply for plots with 6 local organisations including Addaction, Margaret Blackwood Housing Association and the Community Councils already expressing an interest about obtaining a plot.
