Breastfeeding Support for West Glasgow Mums

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde’s Infant Feeding Strategy is being delivered across West Glasgow by the CHCP. Four infant feeding support workers will soon start work with the Children’s Services Team to help and support new mums and their families to improve infant nutrition.

Cathy Holden, service manager for Children and Families Service said: “The infant feeding support workers will run antenatal workshops for pregnant women throughout the area, promote breastfeeding through health and community events, support the successful breastfeeding groups in the area and provide individual breastfeeding support for mums.”

Cathy explained that this initiative is aimed at raising awareness of the benefits of breastfeeding and to support mums who have chosen to breastfeed. Cathy added: “Our aim is to increase the number of mothers who choose to breastfeed their babies. But we also want to advise mums about healthy diets, appropriate vitamin supplements and formula feeding for infants.”
