As preparation for the Commonwealth Games ramps up, Glasgow 2014 has appointed two new members of the board to strengthen its connections to the broadcasting industry, ahead of the signing of a host broadcaster, and to strengthen the links with the Glasgow 2014 Executive Team.

The two new directors appointed to the board by Lord Smith of Kelvin are Eileen Gallagher and Glasgow 2014 Chief Executive John Scott.

Eileen Gallagher OBE has a strong background in the broadcasting and media sectors. Her creative influence will be beneficial as the organising committee plans its ceremonies and cultural programme.

John Scott, Chief Executive for Glasgow 2014, will also become a member of the board, to strengthen the link between the executive team and the board.

Gallagher and Scott will join the existing 13 members of the board to ensure that the planning of Glasgow 2014 continues to be delivered on time and on budget, and that the Games will be a significant and proud time in Glasgow and Scotland’s history.

Glasgow 2014 Chairman Lord Smith said: “These additions to the board are an appropriate response to the increasingly challenging external environment as the pace of our planning and preparations continue to gain momentum and as we work to achieve our commercial goals.

“I believe that Eileen’s experience in the broadcasting sector will bring an invaluable expertise to the table at a crucial point for the organising committee, and with John’s experience of previous multi-sport events, particularly as a board member for the Manchester 2002 Commonwealth Games, I have no doubt together they will push Glasgow 2014 furthermore towards its aims.”
