A group of Glaswegian cyclists helped raise £250,000 for international sports community projects last month.

Nearly 100 cyclists from St James’ Place offices throughout England, Scotland and Northern Ireland, including many from Glasgow’s office of wealth management, entered a three day cycle ride. It started at Twickenham, near London, and consisted of a 226 mile ride to the Arc de Triomphe.

The event was in aid of the St James’ Place Foundation and the Laureas Sport for Good Foundation. Along with employees, former England cricket captain Michael Vaughan and five time Tour de France winner Miguel Indurain took part.

Michael Vaughan said: “I thought that facing the might of a Test attack would be the most physically demanding sporting challenge of my career but this ride has really tested my endurance levels.”

Kate Roberts, organiser of the St James’ Place entrants, explained: “Each entrant was tasked with raising at least £1,000, which will now be matched £1 for £1 by St. James’s Place Wealth Management.”

The Urban Stars Programme is a national programme that is based in inner cities around the UK. It delivers a multi-sports programme and uses sports to improve youth citizenship, social inclusion and community cohesion.
