Improving Access to Services for Carers

CHCP 1 New Services For Carer.pdf

Carers have welcomed new developments by West Glasgow CHCP that will potentially give them better access to information and support.

A new and simple Carers Self-Assessment Form will be available in the community for carers to complete and relate to CHCP staff the information, training and supports they need in order to improve their quality of life as well as that of the person they care for.

In tandem with this new self-assessment process, a Carers Information Booklet has also been produced by the CHCP to inform carers about the services available to assist them in their caring role. Ray de Souza, Head of Planning and Health Improvement said: “We understand the pressure of looking after someone else can be extremely demanding, so we are keen to do all we can to support carers in their caring roles and to enable them to look after themselves.” He added, “This new booklet has been designed to be a resource for carers, explaining the services available and how to access them.”

The booklet, including the self-assessment form is available from August from the Carers Information and Support Line telephone 0141 353 6504, from the West Carers Service (0141 946 5612) or via West Glasgow CHCP website www.chps.org/westglasgow. Carers are being encouraged to complete the self-assessment form and return it to the Freepost address.

In a further move to improve the support offered to carers, the CHCP’s West Carers Service is conducting a survey of carers’ training and information needs in order to re-shape the training they offer. The Service is seeking the views of anyone who has a caring role. Please call the West Carers Service on 946 5612 or PRT Carers Centre on 959 9871 for a copy of the survey questionnaire or obtain a copy via the CHCP website www.chps.org/westglasgow
