Now You Can See What’s Happening Locally At The Touch Of A Button

Since their introduction in 2009 by the Community Councils’ Resource Centre, four public information portals have attracted 35,000 hits.

The sites at Buchanan Street’s Business Gateway Centre, Hillhead Library in Byres Road, Langside Jobcentre in Battlefield Road and the Shawlands Arcade Jobcentre feature a 32 inch liquid crystal display screen relaying up to the minute information about local councils, as well as a range of other important community announcements.

Alex Hewetson, Community Council Liaison Officer, at Glasgow City Council said “Community councils have welcomed this new and innovative approach to an interface with their communities. We’ve had 8,000 hits so far and are on target for 35,000 hits over the two year life of the pilot project. This illustrates that the screens have generated a lot of interest. They showcase what community councils are doing in their local areas 24 hours a day, at a very reasonable cost. They are excellent value for money but as well as this, they’ve helped us to save money. We estimate that the potential savings could be up to £25,000 on newsletter production over the year.”
