The Coach House Trust
Challenging Isolation and Intolerance with Innovation
June was an exciting month for The Coach House Trust in Kelvinbridge; firstly their Alderman Road Community Market Garden in Knightswood was nominated Community Champion, West Area in the Evening Times for the work done in community engagement.
Secondly they were presented with the Scottish Government Community Service Award for the best environmental project and the best overall national project.
The CHT works primarily with people who have had mental health issues, but also those with learning disabilities or in drug /alcohol rehabilitation. They offer a broad range of training activities including horticulture, hard and soft landscaping, furniture making, composting, recycling as well as offering outreach and counselling services.
Since October 2009 they have also been working with Glasgow City Council Criminal Justice Services to take clients on community payback placements. Many of these people have expressed interest in returning as volunteers and on 6th July Kenny MacAskill, Cabinet Minister for Justice in the Scottish Government, visited the various sites to see the impact of this project.
