Drumchapel United Triumph
in the Blackpool Cup
Drumchapel United 2001’s (Under 9’s) recently travelled down south to take part in the 24th Blackpool Cup. Scottish clubs have a proud tradition in this competition and Drumchapel United managed to further enhance this on their visit by winning the cup.
Travelling to Blackpool and playing against opposition from across the country is a life changing event for a child of this age in what is their first full season and they were a great credit to themselves, their parents and Drumchapel United.
In the tournament the team played some superb passing football and never looked out of place which in itself is a great achievement for a newly formed team.
The final was a nervy affair against a very good Chapelhall side who took the lead. However Drumchapel kept their nerve and managed an equaliser to take the game to penalities, which they won 4-1.
The victorious squad;
Darren McHugh
Colin Sutherland
Daryl Conarty
Aidan Hardie
Kieran Travers
Ewan Lyons
Reece Mitchell
James Masterton
Brandon Baker Darren Clark
Coaches David Smith and Gerry McAllister are very proud of all the players and feel that the amount of effort put in was rewarded with their first trophy. As a reward for their success the club took the players for a day out in the Blackpool Pleasure Beach and a great time was had by all.
