Scotland’s leading track and field athlete, Lee McConnell unveiled plans for the first major sporting event to be held at the new Scotstoun Stadium and called on sporting fans to be part of it.

The newest, most exciting concept in athletics, Super8, is coming to Glasgow and will be met by McConnell’s team as they compete with seven British cities over two hours of athletics on 7th July. She was joined at the launch by Councillor Archie Graham and pupils of Scotstoun Primary School.

The first Scot to gain European, Commonwealth and World medals said: “It is brilliant to be part of Super8 2010, and I am so proud to be team captain for Glasgow. The unique Super8 format pitches eight cities head to head in a two-hour schedule of spectator-friendly competition. McConnell and her Glasgow team will do battle with Gateshead, Plymouth, Manchester, Sheffield, Birmingham, London and Cardiff for the crown of 2010 Super8 champions. The event is being delivered in partnership with Culture and Sport Glasgow.
