Congratulations Sharks

Glasgow Sharks recently won the Haggis Cup, the first silverware ever to grace their trophy cabinet.

The tournament was an Aussie Rules express style tournament in a 9-a-side format. With 2 groups of 4 teams competing against each other in a round robin format, playing in 10 minute halves. The top 2 in each group progressing through to the semis.

A glorious day at Scotstoun Stadium saw the competing teams Solna Axemen (Sweden), Milano Footy (Italy), Dublin Demons (Ireland), Huddersfield Rams, Wimbledon Hawks (both England) and the other Scottish sides Edinburgh Bloods and Aberdeen Dingoes battling it out, looking to take home the Haggis Cup.

The Sharks finished the group stages with a 2 - 1 record with convincing wins over Milano and the Dingoes. But Wimbledon was too strong for the Sharks who stormed through the group to finish top, but we did show glimpse's of what we could be capable of against the Hawks. Glasgow finished in second place after the group stage and qualified for the semi finals.

Facing local rival Edinburgh Bloods and winner of their other group with an undefeated record in the semi final, the Sharks showed true grit always staying within a chance of winning for the whole game. An after the siren goal from captain Adam Jack from just inside the half way line saw the Sharks into the final with a 5pt win over the old enemies. The Hawks went on to win against a very good Rams outfit in the other semi final.

The final was a gruelling affair, the Hawks did not know what hit them after the easy game they had against us earlier in the day. The Sharks came out with a blast, being sharper and more determined than their opposition. We made every tackle count and following the orders of coach Stephen Connor to the dot. The frustrated Hawks gave away a number of silly free kicks, which started to lead to their own demise, but Glasgow took advantage and ended up being to good in the end winning the Haggis Cup final 32-15.
