Alcohol in my life is part of West Glasgow CHCP’s campaign to raise awareness of issues related to underage drinking.
Recently Glasgow News caught up with Sarah Brady, Health Improvement Senior in West Glasgow CHCP, to find out how Alcohol In My Life was progressing.
Sarah said “A pilot, involving key local organisations delivering Alcohol In My Life sessions to various groups, was very successful with people who attended the sessions completing evaluation forms and facilitators of the sessions providing feedback.”
What have people thought of Alcohol In My Life? Comments received include: “information provided helped establish that alcohol is an issue that can affect everyone, regardless of whether they themselves personally drink or not” and “say no to youngsters when they ask adults to buy alcohol on their behalf”.
How do we find out more information? The supporting website www.aiml.org.uk has information to support organisations or individuals interested in the project and the diversionary activities for young people that take place in Knightswood, Scotstoun and Yoker. The aim is to be able to provide information for further areas in the future.
What is the future for Alcohol In My Life? Alcohol in my life sessions will continue to be offered across West Glasgow CHCP and the campaign is being made available to other organisations across NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde through Health Improvement teams.

G15 Go Wild

Since the beginning of the year, the G15 Youth Project has assisted 11 young people who volunteered to help their local area.

Since then the group has erected three bird houses and four feeding stations, with a bird bath and hedgehog dens complimenting them. With this project completed on 14th May, the team have already turned to another garden project nearby which was covered in dead wood, overgrown trees and litter. With nine people already volunteering, the plan is to grow fruit&veg in beds, install a green house and have a seated area to view the flowers and bird houses.
The project is part of The Point activity programme, which runs every Tuesday 12:30-2:00pm and is funded by Glasgow Community Planning Partnership and supported by GCASS.

The past few months have been busy for the Scottish Youth Parliament representatives. From attending local community events to preparing for our next national sitting. And of course there is exam leave. There has been no time to take a break!

Partick Burgh Halls Youth Summit
On the 31st of March I was invited by Culture and Sport Glasgow to attend the Youth Summit Event at Partick Borough Halls. This event aimed to bring together young people from schools, youth project in the Glasgow West Area to participate in a variety of workshops to explore the issues young people face .In the morning I gave a speech to the young people who attended and gave them an overview of what my role is within the Scottish Youth Parliament and how we can help their voices to be heard. Throughout the day the young people split into groups and discussed the issues which affected them and categorized them in order of importance. They then set up action plans which they have taken back to their schools, youth projects in a hope that they can make a change. Overall the event was a huge success and it was a pleasure to see such enthused young people at the event.
